Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are the heart of the Atlanta Humane Society. We offer a variety of ways for you to show compassion and save lives, from hands-on volunteering in our adoption centers to advocating for the animals in our community. You are the reason that Atlanta’s cats and dogs have the chance to thrive, and we thank you for your support.

To apply for one of our volunteer positions, please fill out the form below. We have a limited number of available positions in adoption, animal admissions, foster, Shelter Medicine, front desk greeting, and dog walking.
Animal Admissions Volunteer
Animal admissions volunteers assist staff with everyday operations, such as intake of animals and caring for animals not yet available for adoption.
Foster Care Volunteer
Foster care volunteers provide temporary care for cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies in their own homes. Some animals need just a few weeks of foster care, while others may need longer-term foster placement.
Shelter Medicine Volunteer
Shelter medicine volunteers assist the Shelter Medicine Team with prep for surgery, clinical procedures, nursing care, and clean-up to ensure we meet the highest standards of care for our shelter animals.
Dog Walker
Dog walker volunteers receive training on safe and effective methods for handling dogs of all kinds and enjoy flexibility in their volunteer shift schedules.
Community Outreach Volunteer
Community outreach volunteers assist with our community programs, including our low-cost spay/neuter clinics and our Pet Food Assistance Program.
Photography Volunteer
Experienced professional or amateur photographers are needed to take photos of our adoptable animals for marketing and promotional materials, including the website. A DSLR camera and access to editing software is required.
Special Events Volunteer
Special events volunteers assist in organizing and preparing for the execution of Atlanta Humane Society signature special events to help our dogs and cats get adopted.
