This past year has been devastating to so many people. And Lily’s story reminds us that humans aren’t the only ones affected by the pandemic.

Lily was devoted to her family. But everything changed in what seemed like an instant. The man whom Lily had loved her whole life was stricken with COVID-19 and died soon after. And his wife, who helped raise Lily from puppyhood, couldn’t keep their home.

After years of contentment, safety, and love, Lily lost everything.

Now, we’re asking you to help the countless pets who have been abandoned and displaced by circumstances out of their control. When you give today, your gift will be triple matched – up to $75,000 – to help care for animals just like Lily.

It’s only through your caring generosity that Atlanta Humane can help those animals whose lives are on the line. Please, give today.

Gabe was found as an extremely emaciated stray by Fulton County Animal Services. While in their care, Gabe struggled to keep food and water down, so they transferred him to the Atlanta Humane Society for help.

Gabe when he was first rescued as an emaciated stray

Once he was transferred, our team ran careful observations on Gabe to ensure he didn’t have a blockage that prevented his body from processing food and getting the vital nutrients he needed to be healthy.

Thankfully, no blockages were discovered. We began offering Gabe yummy, easily palatable food that he was excited to eat, and he began improving day by day.

Today, Gabe is in a loving foster home, where he’s on a strict feeding schedule to help him gain weight in a healthy way. We hope it won’t be long before he’s feeling like himself again. Gabe is a fighter and although he wasn’t treated well before arriving in our care, his days of being an emaciated stray are over. Now, he’ll never know anything but love.

Tiny, helpless Lucille was found wandering the streets alone, shivering from fear and cold. With temperatures dropping, there was no shelter or safety to be found. And poor Lucille, suffering from a severe case of mange, had no fur to keep her warm. She had no one, and she needed a miracle.

As soon as the Atlanta Humane Society heard about Lucille’s plight, we dropped everything to go to her rescue. Here, safe and warm for the first time in her life, she curled up in her bed and peered up at us. It was heartbreaking to see the pain in her eyes. She was so tired from fighting to survive. Lucille was safe at last — but she faced a long road to recovery.

Finally, after nearly two months of expert medical care and a loving foster home, Lucille’s skin was healed, and she grew a beautiful brindle coat. She looked — and felt — like a whole new dog.

So many animals like Lucille need medical help to survive and live healthier, happier lives. And countless more need rescuing from heartbreaking situations.

Our 2021 Spring Fund Drive is under way, and we need your help. We must raise $43,000 by April 16 to rescue animals from cruelty and neglect. Please give today.

Remember, we must hear from you by our 2021 Spring Fund Drive deadline of April 16! Thank you for the love you have already shown to the animals in our care. Your gift today will rescue and heal even more who need it most.

Charlie was brought to the Atlanta Humane Society when his previous owner could no longer afford the care he needed. See, Charlie was extremely overweight and had torn both of his ACLs. Unfortunately, his weight meant he was not a candidate for the surgery he needed to walk pain-free again, so his loving foster family went straight to work helping him get active!

After several months of hydrotherapy along with a regimented diet and exercise plan, Charlie got some good news: he was clear for surgery!

The surgery Charlie needed is called a TPLO, or Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy, and it required an orthopedic specialist to perform. Just a few weeks after his intense surgery, Charlie is finally able to walk pain-free for the first time in years. He still has several weeks of recovery left, but this lucky pup has stolen the hearts of his foster family, and they’ll be making his adoption official as soon as Charlie is ready! Congratulations, buddy!

Right away, we knew something wasn’t right with little Breeze. Both of his front paws were contorted, and every step made him whimper in pain. He wanted so badly to run around like a normal puppy should, but he just couldn’t.

After running some diagnostics, our Shelter Medicine Team determined that Breeze’s condition was due to significant nutritional deficiencies, and they started him on a diet of yummy Purina food, which is formulated to help puppies grow big and strong.

We found a loving foster home for Breeze where he could grow, heal, and learn what love is.

With just a few weeks of love and proper nutrition, Breeze’s paws began to gain strength, and he started to romp and play just like a healthy puppy should.

Thanks to supporters like you, Breeze’s story has a happy ending, but there are so many others out there still waiting for a glimmer of hope.

One of the dogs rescued from a puppy mill in Georgia
Unfortunately, there are animals across our state living in neglect right now. They’re outside in muddy pens, fighting for food, and covered in filth. They’ve never known love. When night comes, they begin to shiver. They do their best to curl up in a corner and rest, but they’re living with dozens of other dogs, and the noise, the barking is nonstop in the darkness.
When they wake up after the cold nights like we’ve just had, their fur is frozen, and their paws are stuck in the cold metal slats that they’re forced to live on. Sometimes there is food waiting for them, but often they have to fight for the last morsel of kibble that was refilled weeks ago. Their water froze in the bowl overnight, but it’s covered in filth and barely drinkable anyways.
Their reality is cruelty.

Your donation right now during our Day of Giving will ensure their cries don’t fall on deaf ears. Your donation will be doubled to support our Animal Protection Unit and ensure they’re able to respond to cruelty complaints, work with local county officials, and rescue these animals.
Help End Cruelty

Your donation during our Day of Giving campaign will help us end animal cruelty. Please, find it in your heart to help rescue these animals.

We want to give you an update on Pudge, one of the 29 dogs rescued from neglect in Toccoa, Ga.

All 29 dogs were scared and urine-stained, and they had been living exposed to the elements in outdoor sheds.

After bringing the dogs into our care, Pudge immediately stole our hearts with his sweet nature. Despite the neglectful conditions we pulled him from, he quickly warmed up to our staff and knew we were here to help.

Like many of the dogs rescued that day, Pudge had a skin issue that needed immediate attention from our expert Shelter Medicine Team. But with soothing baths, medication, and good nutrition from our friends at Purina, we were able to help his skin heal.

And the best news? Pudge found the perfect forever family to show him what true love is all about!

We’re so thankful to our supporters for helping us give sweet animals like Pudge the happy endings they deserve.

Rose came to the Atlanta Humane Society after being found as a stray and brought to a local animal control facility. One look into her cloudy, soulful brown eyes and we knew she had to come with us.

She quickly stole the hearts of volunteers and staff alike, and we just know that if you give her a chance, this 10-year-old sweetheart will steal your heart too! While we don’t know much about her background, we know that she was used for breeding, and her overbreeding coupled with not being spayed led Rose to battle mammary cancer. Our expert Shelter Medicine Team took great care of her, and now Rose is on the road to recovery.

We’re not sure how it happened, but at some point in her life, Rose became partially paralyzed on the left side of her face, which makes her look like she’s always grinning! We think it gives her lots of character and personality. She loves wearing sweaters, going for walks, and cuddling for hours and hours at a time.

Rose is housebroken, crate trained, gets along well with dogs and cats, and is ready to meet you!

Lanier was diagnosed with parvovirus, which can be extremely deadly in puppies, and we weren’t sure she was going to make it through the day. Her gums were completely white, she couldn’t lift her head, and she wouldn’t eat.

Our Shelter Medicine Team administered IV fluids, pain medication, nausea medication, and monitored her all day. Miraculously, she made it through the day and went on to receive emergency medical treatment at a specialist hospital, which was extremely costly.

After over a week of intensive treatment, fluids, and specialized care, Lanier tested negative for parvovirus! Now, she’s a happy, healthy puppy.
