We’re proud of our American heroes and what they do to keep our country moving. That’s why we offer them a discount on all dog and cat adoptions through our American Heroes Adoption Program.

First responders, current servicemen/women, veterans, all healthcare workers, and members of the National Association of Independent Truckers can receive discounts on their adoption fees. The adoption fee for animals one year of age and older is 50% off, and the adoption fee for animals younger than one year is 10% off.

If you qualify to adopt through this program, please let an adoption counselor know and be prepared to show proof of employment during the adoption process.

At the holidays, and always, the animals at the Atlanta Humane Society are wishing for homes to call their own. This year, we’ve got great news for them and an opportunity for you!

Thanks to the generosity of the Atlanta Humane Society President’s Circle, all gifts received by December 31 will be tripled — up to $50,000. Imagine how many homeless and abandoned animals you can help this holiday season!

You can help animals like the dachshund-mix puppies you see here. They were so tiny when they arrived that they had to go into individual foster homes for around-the-clock feeding. And then they needed loving care before they were ready to be adopted.

In this difficult time of increased need and fewer resources, you can triple your impact with your gift today — and save three times as many lives.

Your generosity, especially during these challenging times, means more than words can express. On behalf of the animals who will be saved by your kindness this holiday season, thank you!

If you are approached by someone who comes to your door asking if you would like to become an Atlanta Humane Society recurring donor and they are wearing clearly branded identification similar to what you see here, this is a legitimate activity by our canvassers. We are working with our partner, GIG USA, to connect with more animal lovers in our community and invite them to become one of our recurring superheroes. These compassionate supporters give ongoing gifts that help save the day for Atlanta’s animals.

Recurring support is especially important because it provides steady, reliable funding to:

  • Help families who are struggling to keep their pets, so beloved animals can remain in their homes
  • Rescue homeless animals, provide them with medical care, and prepare them for adoption
  • Sustain vital programs that protect animals across our community

Our canvassers are an extension of our Atlanta Humane family. They love animals as much as we do and truly enjoy talking with fellow animal lovers about how to make a lifesaving difference.

As the weeks go by, it’s easy to forget that thousands of people were devastated by Hurricane Ida just a few weeks ago, but the residents of Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, haven’t forgotten. In fact, they’ve just started to rebuild.

We knew we had to help, so three members of our Animal Protection Unit deployed to assist our friends at Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter whose facility suffered damage and weeks of power outages due to the storm.

Our team worked for more than two weeks assisting in the temporary emergency animal shelter, which was constructed in a converted gymnasium. They slept in a tow trailer and went without hot showers for weeks, but because of their sacrifice and dedication, over 100 animals had a safe, clean, and comfortable place to call home until power was restored to the animal shelter. A huge thank you to our team, and our thoughts and love are with the residents of Terrebonne Parish.

Sarah lives on a tight budget and never planned on having a pet, but sometimes the pet just picks you. She routinely brings food to a neighbor in need, and during one such visit, she noticed a stray cat following her around. It only took a few more food drops, and the regular pitter patter of his paws behind her, before Sarah adopted him as her own and named him Mr. Fluffy Cat.

One afternoon, Sarah noticed Mr. Fluffy Cat limping and found a large wound on his paw. Unsure of how he received his injury but knowing he needed medical attention, she began calling local veterinary offices to have him seen. Due to cost concerns and lack of appointment availability, Sarah struggled to find somewhere to take Mr. Fluffy Cat. But when she called the Atlanta Humane Society, our Resource Center let her know about the Veterinary Center’s affordable sick pet visits and quickly got Mr. Fluffy Cat in to be seen.

His paw was bleeding significantly, but our team tended to the wound, cleaned the infected area, administered pain medication, and started Mr. Fluffy Cat on a course of antibiotics. Sarah was relieved that she found a partner in her pet’s car, and Mr. Fluffy Cat was quickly back to his normal self again.

``You all care. You don't just provide services; you truly care.``

Eight tiny, orphaned puppies just arrived at our West Midtown location after their mother was shot and killed. Their entire world was turned upside down, and all they knew was that they were cold, hungry, and confused.

At just a few weeks old, these puppies will need weeks of around-the-clock bottle feeding from specially trained foster caregivers to survive.

Please, your support is urgently needed to care for these puppies and give them love after they were left orphaned and alone.

With the threat of Hurricane Ida on the horizon, our Disaster Response Team deployed to both New Orleans, Louisiana, and Gulfport, Mississippi, to assist our partners at Louisiana SPCA and the Humane Society of South Mississippi.

Fifty-one animals were evacuated and arrived at the Atlanta Humane Society seeking shelter from Hurricane Ida’s imminent landfall along the coast. Twelve dogs will be transported on to our partners at Hilton Head Humane Society, and the remaining 39 animals will stay at the Atlanta Humane Society to find loving, forever homes.

Our Disaster Response Team worked diligently with our shelter partners throughout the Southeast to ensure that as many animals as possible are moved out of harm’s way ahead of Hurricane Ida’s landfall. All 39 animals remaining in Atlanta will be medically evaluated and, once healthy, will be available for adoption. Our thoughts are with the residents of the gulf coast area during this time.

Our Shelter Medicine Team is busy caring for Patchwork, a 6-week-old kitten with a shattered leg, pelvis, and significant nerve damage. Our team is continuing to do diagnostics and create a plan of care, but we know that Patchwork will have a long road of recovery ahead.

Give now to help Patchwork and other animals just like him.

Over the past few days, our team has been dedicated to evaluating, caring for, and loving on the 45 dogs who were rescued from neglectful conditions in south Georgia.

These dogs – like Keystone – desperately need your help. Keystone is a 4-year-old Great Pyrenees who, along with the other dogs rescued from the same location, spent his days living outdoors in a filthy pen. With a thick fur coat in this record-breaking summer heat, Keystone was incredibly uncomfortable. His fur became matted with mud and discharge from his infected ears, and his claws became so overgrown that they nearly dug into the bottoms of his paws.

But all that suffering hasn’t stopped Keystone from being a sweetheart to everyone he meets. Can you help give Keystone the life that he truly deserves?
