In November, we introduced you to 9 puppies who had been orphaned after their mother died. They were just 9 days old and their eyes were still closed when it happened.

But with your support, we were able to place these puppies into experienced foster homes, where they received around-the-clock care.

Today, these puppies are thriving! All of them are in great health and continue to grow strong so that they can eventually be placed into loving forever homes.

All of the cats and dogs at the Atlanta Humane Society are on Santa’s ‘nice’ list this year, which means they’re eagerly waiting for presents. And the one gift on all of their lists is a home.

Check ‘home’ off their list and change their life when you adopt from the Atlanta Humane Society this holiday season. Adoption fees are 50% off for all cats and dogs between December 17 and 23.

sweetie atlanta humane society video

When Sweetie first arrived at the Atlanta Humane Society, she was nervous. Her owner was surrendering her because of their own health issues that made it difficult to give Sweetie the care that she needed.

Although it was clear to our Shelter Medicine Team that Sweetie was suffering from skin and allergy issues, those were minor compared to what they found next.

The two dark objects you see on the X-ray above are bladder stones. Bladder stones — especially large ones like Sweetie had — can cause pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, and problems urinating.

Our Shelter Medicine Team surgically removed Sweetie’s bladder stones and began treating her skin allergies. Then, Sweetie was transferred to a quiet and loving foster home to heal.

Sweetie is currently available for adoption at the Atlanta Humane Society.

When you give to the Atlanta Humane Society on Giving Tuesday, your gift will be tripled! In honor of Lilly and Tobin, a generous supporter will be matching your gift up to $20,000 when you give before midnight on Giving Tuesday, November 30.

Your support will help animals like:

Will, who arrived at our shelter a few days ago. We were shocked at his condition. Extremely emaciated and heartworm positive, Will has almost no energy in his body and his lungs are in poor condition.

Will is a fighter and his bloodwork looks good, so our Shelter Medicine Team is providing him all they can to help him beat the odds, and your support today will give him the care he needs to build up strength and overcome his illness.

And while we don’t know if Will is going to survive, we know this loving boy deserves a chance.

hope 1

Hope, who has one of the largest hearts our Shelter Medicine Team has ever seen. The culprit? Extremely advanced heartworm disease.

While heartworm disease is completely preventable, Hope’s illness is now so advanced that treatment is no longer even an option for her. We’re heartbroken, but our team is working to ensure that Hope has as many good days as possible. She’s been started on medication to help her heart work better and is currently living with a hospice foster.

Kacee, whose whole body was trembling. Little Kacee had barely any hair on her tiny, 3-pound body, and she was scared. She found herself in an overcrowded rural shelter at only 9 weeks old, and the shelter simply did not have the resources to care for her.

We welcomed Kacee with open arms, and we’re asking for your support so we can offer that same loving embrace to many more animals in need.

Our Shelter Medicine Team almost couldn’t believe it. They stared at the X-rays of Hope, a 2-year-old American Bulldog, seeing one of the largest hearts that ever displayed on their screen.

With your support, we’ll be able to support Hope further while ensuring that other animals in Atlanta don’t suffer the same fate. Please, give today and your gift will be triple matched.

BISSELL Pet Foundation has awarded the Atlanta Humane Society a lifesaving grant that will treat shelter dogs diagnosed with heartworm in the coming months. The “Healing Heartworm” grant will allow the Atlanta Humane Society to cover the expenses related to identifying, healing, and preventing this deadly disease in dogs in our community.

Thousands of heartworm-positive dogs enter shelters every year. A dog who is heartworm positive can be harder to adopt because of the treatment cost that adopters might have to take on. The “Healing Heartworm” program was launched as an effort to eliminate these obstacles by providing the funds to get medication for treatment and prevention.

BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Atlanta Humane Society will also provide education to adopters and pet owners about heartworm and work to limit the risk for pets in the Atlanta community. Heartworm is an easily preventable disease with monthly medication provided by a veterinarian. Dogs who are unprotected can become infected through mosquito bites, and tragically, when left untreated, heartworm can be potentially fatal.

These 9 puppies just arrived in our care after their mother died.

At only 9 days old and with their tiny eyes still closed, they need around-the-clock care and must be bottle fed every few hours to stay alive.

We’re placing these puppies into experienced foster homes to receive the support they need, which means several weeks of medical care, formula, warmth, and love as they grow stronger.

Can you help us provide for these puppies? Your donation will be triple matched – up to $50,000.

Update: Two of the puppies, Gisele and Tyra, have made full recoveries and are now ready to find their forever homes. While they wait for their perfect matches, they’ve been catching up on their sleep, exploring the world, and getting into a little trouble (as puppies do!). They’re so happy and wiggly, in fact, that our photographer had some trouble getting the in-focus photo you see above.

The remaining littermate, Naomi, is still undergoing isolation protocols for parvovirus but is expected to be available for adoption in the coming days.

This lifesaving effort is all because of your support. Without you, these puppies wouldn’t have been able to receive the intensive care that beating this illness requires, and we can’t thank you enough.

November 1, 2021: Giselle and her littermates are fighting for their lives. They were just diagnosed with deadly parvovirus, and one of their littermates succumbed to the illness before they even made it to our doors.

This disease is so deadly that shelters often euthanize at the first sign of it, but we know that the right resources can bring hope.

When you give now, your donation – up to $50,000 – will be tripled thanks to a generous matching donation from the Atlanta Humane Society President’s Circle.
