Tito recently went on a Dog Day Adventure, and our team went along for the ride!

Dog Day Adventures are great opportunities for our adoptable dogs to spend a day outside of the shelter with a volunteer. Tito walked the Beltline, visited Ponce City Market, skateboarded at Fourth Ward Skate Park, and even got a few treats along the way.

Thank you to Tito’s Handmade Vodka for supporting Atlanta’s animals!

Honeyloaf 2

Honeyloaf is looking for love! She’s a 2-year-old pit bull terrier who is super sweet and loves hanging out with her people. She also enjoys walks and playing with her toys.

Honeyloaf doesn’t have much known history with cats, dogs, or kids, but an adoption counselor can arrange a meet and greet to see how she might get along with current family members.

She also qualifies for our Foster First Program, which means you can take her home for two weeks prior to adopting her to ensure that you’re the perfect fit for one another.

Wet Nose Wednesdays are brought to you by Ingles and our friends at the Bert Show.

A few weeks ago, we shared the story of several puppies and their moms who were rushed into our care from a sad situation. The puppies and their hardworking moms are doing wonderfully in their foster homes. Although they aren’t adoptable just yet, we can’t wait to help them find their forever homes soon!

If you would like to contribute to their care, please donate here or purchase an item from the wish list below.

Little Roxy came into our care with a badly broken tibia and fibula. The breaks were so bad, we had to amputate her leg to ensure she’d live the best life possible. She was quickly placed into a wonderful foster home to heal. Now, Roxy is thriving and loving life.

Late yesterday, several puppies and their moms were rushed into our care from a sad situation. Their owner had too many animals and was unable to provide all of them with the proper care. Our Animal Protection Unit was called in and arrived on scene to bring these tiny puppies and their loving moms to Atlanta Humane. Once they were safely in Atlanta, our team jumped into action to provide them with medical support and quickly placed them into loving foster homes.

But these puppies have a long road ahead of them. Nine of them are just days old and will need specialized care. The other 4 are only a month old. Their moms are all scared, confused, and still learning to trust — unsure of what lies ahead for them and their puppies. Your donation right now will be tripled to provide these dogs with the love, care, and resources they need to survive.

january triple match extension blog

UPDATE: Due to the pandemic, our critical end-of-year mailers were delivered late. But thanks to a bequest from George Davis Webb Jr., in memory of his mother, Martha, the match is being extended to help us hit our fundraising goal and provide opportunities for donations to be matched.

All gifts – up to $100,000 – will be triple matched until midnight on January 14 thanks to a bequest made by George Davis Webb Jr. in memory of his mother, Martha.

Now is your final chance to have your gift triple matched! When you give before Dec. 31, 2021, your tax-deductible donation – up to $50,000 – will be triple matched by the Atlanta Humane Society President’s Circle to rescue animals from cruelty and neglect.

These three sweet puppies came to us when they were only a few weeks old and had nowhere else to go. They were so tiny when they arrived that they were sent to foster homes for around-the-clock monitoring and hand feeding.

After battling pesky parasites, each puppy started to perk up and gain weight. Thanks to your support, they received the care they needed and were adopted by loving families.

Because of you, the Atlanta Humane Society can give these puppies, and other animals like them, second chances at life.

Meet Chance, a 5-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix who has been in our care for more than a year.

This boy is a total sweetheart and, despite his size, would love to be your next lap dog. He loves being petted, having your attention, and meeting new people.

Chance is very energetic, so his ideal family is one that stays active and exercises regularly. He’s very playful and enjoys rolling in the grass, so a big yard with lots of space to run in would be great for him. He also likes to share his toys with the people he loves, so playtime is always a blast!

After he gets his energy out, Chance is very chill at home. He enjoys nice, long naps and is considered a champion cuddler by all who have been lucky enough to snuggle up to him.

Chance is housebroken, mild-mannered, and great on car rides. He loves going on walks but doesn’t like other dogs, especially when he’s on a leash. Because of his size and high energy levels, he should not live with cats or small children.

Chance qualifies for our Foster First Program, which means that you can foster him for 14 days prior to adopting to ensure that you’re a perfect match for one another.

The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation

The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation today announced a three-year, $4 million grant to the Atlanta Humane Society (AHS). The capital grant will support the expansion of Atlanta Humane’s new westside campus and animal care center set to open in 2022.

“My family and I have always had a deep love for all animals, and I truly can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t have a pet family member at home. Animals bring an abundance of love, joy and companionship to humans, and we need them just as much as they need us,” said Arthur M. Blank, Chairman, The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. “Protecting, improving and educating the community about animal welfare is a selfless, vital task, and we are honored to work with the Atlanta Humane Society to help bring this new center to life in hopes of continuing to support and pair thousands of animals with their new families.”

The five-acre campus, which will be named at a later date by Atlanta Humane and the Blank Family Foundation, will be located on Perry Boulevard, adjacent to the new westside Quarry Yards development. The campus will include an adoption, behavior and medical facility, landscaped walking trails, a memory garden and educational spaces for the community to gather.

“The support of The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation is truly transformational – not only to our new animal care center but to the future of animal welfare within our great city,” said Cal Morgan, President and CEO of the Atlanta Humane Society. “We are extremely grateful to The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation for their commitment and aspirational leadership in emphasizing the importance of supporting the pets and people in our community.”

The new campus and animal care center will allow Atlanta Humane to create operational efficiencies so that it can increase its number of animal services including sheltering services; spaying/neutering animals; delivering medical services; and providing resource services to the community. Additionally, the new site will showcase a shelter built to efficiently respond to contemporary animal welfare issues, enhance its shelter medicine program, increase foster care and expand community engagement opportunities.

About the Atlanta Humane Society
The Atlanta Humane Society is a no-kill animal shelter serving more than 60,000 of Atlanta’s animals each year through various services including adoption, veterinary care, and community outreach. Last year, they provided 128,033 of these animal services to people and pets throughout Georgia and the Southeast. They operate out of three locations in metro Atlanta and help find thousands of animals loving homes each year. As Atlanta’s oldest non-religious nonprofit, they have been caring for the Atlanta community and its animals for more than 148 years. For more information, please visit atlantahumane.org.

About The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation
After 25 years and more than $800 million in giving, The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation has committed to significantly accelerating the impact of its philanthropy over the next 10+ years.

The Board is embarking on a journey of deeper learning and strategy setting for its new collective areas of giving, which include: Youth Development, with a focus on workforce development and economic mobility; Democracy, with a focus on key areas of Voting Rights, and Journalism; and Environment, with a focus on key areas of Conservation and Climate Resiliency. Across these portfolios, the Foundation will look for opportunities to address the growing crisis of disconnection in our nation. Geographically, much of the work will continue to prioritize Georgia (with a focus on Atlanta) and Montana, while also considering the potential for greater national impact and influence.

In addition to the collective areas of giving, the Foundation will continue to oversee a large portfolio of Founder-led initiatives, including investment in the transformation of Atlanta’s Westside neighborhoods, mental health and wellbeing, veterans and the military, and stuttering, among others. The Foundation will also continue to guide the seven Associate-led giving committees operating across the Blank Family of Businesses.

Mr. Blank, chairman of the Foundation, co-founded The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, in 1978 and retired from the company as co-chairman in 2001.
