Our Shelter Medicine Team almost couldn’t believe it. They stared at the X-rays of Hope, a 2-year-old American Bulldog, seeing one of the largest hearts that ever displayed on their screen. The culprit? Extremely advanced heartworm disease.
While heartworm disease is completely preventable, Hope’s illness is now so advanced that treatment is no longer even an option for her. We’re heartbroken, but our team is working to ensure that Hope has as many good days as possible. She’s been started on medication to help her heart work better and is currently living with a hospice foster.
