About Storm
Storm had been in our care for almost a year. She spent her time with us in a loving Atlanta Humane foster home and was quick to learn basic commands such as “sit,” “lay down,” and “shake.” Her foster dad worked with her closely alongside our Behavior Team on redirecting her energy and helping her to calm down before she became overstimulated.
Storm does not enjoy the company of other dogs, so we had to find that perfect home for her with an experienced owner who could ensure she stayed safe and was properly distracted if she saw another dog while out on a walk.
Our team, and her foster parent, worked closely and patiently with Storm for months to help reduce her reactivity to other dogs and help her become the best dog possible. Slowly but surely she became calmer, more focused, and less frustrated. Storm became a better behaved dog and, because of that, was more appealing to adopters and happier herself. And the hard work, from all sides, paid off when Sandy landed herself the perfect home to call her own.
Our Behavior Team supports our animals by ensuring that both our shelter animals and animals in our foster homes receive enrichment and behavior training. Last year, they implemented 4,845 individualized care plans. This team also worked alongside our Animal Champions to ensure that dogs and cats who needed extra behavior support, like Storm, benefited from it.
Our holistic approach to caring for animals, including providing individualized enrichment and behavior care plans, is what sets us apart. We strive to support every animal through their entire shelter journey by caring for their emotional well-being alongside the physical and medical support we provide.
