Foster Program

Our foster network has grown as we’ve placed more animals into foster homes to allow for us to intake more animals into our shelters. Last year, we had 593 active foster families who took 2,880 animals into their homes.

Foster caregivers provide temporary care for cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies in their own homes. Some animals need just a few weeks of foster care, while others may need longer-term foster placement. Fostering is flexible enough for most lifestyles and, because we want the experience to be beneficial for both the foster caregiver and the animal, we allow fosters to choose which animals they’re interested in fostering. By offering their time, love, and home to animals in need, fosters are changing lives for the better.

The first step in becoming an Atlanta Humane foster caregiver is signing up for one of our virtual foster caregiver orientations. These orientations are held virtually twice a month. Visit atlantahumane.org/foster to see our upcoming foster orientations.
