Georgia is a beautiful and affectionate 6.5-year-old Boxer mix. She has been living in an AHS foster home but is looking for her perfect forever home. Georgia has an easy-going personality and is looking for a low-key home where she can relax and receive well-deserved cuddles.

Georgia is well trained! Not only does she have exceptional leash manners, she is both potty trained and crate trained. One of her favorite past times is enjoying long walks. Georgia is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, and ready to meet you!

She has done so well with her foster brothers, and we believe Georgia would likely be successful with another dog in her future home.

Ladybug was found abandoned, left in a crate and all alone. She was found by bicyclists in the neighborhood and was immediately brought to the Atlanta Humane Society. She was unresponsive-emaciated, lethargic and suffering from hypothermia.

We rushed her to an emergency specialty hospital where she received IV fluids, around-the-clock care, diagnostics, and all the love in the world.

We are thrilled to report that Ladybug miraculously beat the odds and pulled through what seemed like a hopeless situation, and now she is a happy, thriving puppy living in her loving forever home.

Your donation will help us care for animals in dire need like Ladybug.

They started their week in warm, cozy beds, anxiously waiting for new families, and then their worlds turned upside-down.

cat in dark room

It was pitch black when the shelter doors began to shake. Rain pounded on the roof. Windows broke. Their hearts raced faster and faster.

Hurricane Sally made an unexpected turn and was directly over their shelter.

We received the heartbreaking call for help, and our Disaster Response Team hit the road. The storm left their facility unusable and unsafe. Now, all 150 cats and kittens are headed to Atlanta.

We’re relying on your donation, and the matching donation it will provide, to give these survivors a new life.

Please take advantage of this opportunity to watch your gift double to care for twice as many animals. Charles and Virginia Bagley created a designated fund at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta in order to benefit the Atlanta Humane Society in perpetuity.

Have your gift matched today, and provide comfort to these cats, and the hundreds of other animals relying on us.

After being tragically hit by a car, sweet Peace made her way to the Atlanta Humane Society after her stray hold at DeKalb County Animal Services. No one came to claim this beautiful 9-month-old German Shepherd, and she needed expert medical attention.

Although x-rays revealed no broken bones, she was limping heavily on her front left leg where there was a large, swollen mass that needed to be drained and treated with antibiotics.

Peace is underweight, and her ears were filthy, so our Admissions team offered her a full bowl of delicious Purina food and cleaned her bothersome ears. While she’s still a bit unsure, this beautiful girl is starting to feel right at home in our care.

Thanks to generous support from friends like you, we were able to offer peace exactly what she needed to feel like herself again and found her a family to love her!

Please give generously today to support animals just like Peace!

Cooper lived in a crate for the majority of his puppy-hood. Fortunately, he was surrendered to the Atlanta Humane Society where he could get the support needed for his anxious behavior. He entered our Champion Program where he worked closely with our behavioral specialists. Cooper started with high anxiety, some noise sensitivity, destructive behavior, and excessive mouthing. He was unable to settle in a home, often running around the house for hours and unable to settle. However, Cooper was also very affectionate with people, and was friendly and playful towards other dogs.

After training through our Champion Program, Cooper is now fully able to settle in the home and often seeks out a quiet room to nap at his foster house. He loves going on walks and absolutely loves his foster sister, they play and cuddle often. He is quick to befriend strangers as well as other dogs.

Now, Cooper is looking for his forever home where he can share his unconditional love and companionship. His ideal home will be with another dog that he can learn from and have as his best friend and playmate. If you think you Cooper would make a perfect match as a new member of your family he qualifies for our Foster First program, which means you can foster him for 14 days prior to adoption to ensure he is the right fit!

It was a normal day on the construction site… until it wasn’t.

As a worker was weed whacking, he didn’t see them until it was too late. Three tiny kittens, just a few weeks old, were hidden by the tall grass, and his weed whacker had already done irreparable damage.
The piercing, anguish-filled meows were heartbreaking, and these tiny kittens were rushed into our care. One lost a toe, one lost a leg and his tail and sustained a large gash on his belly, and one kitten miraculously escaped unharmed.
We are administering pain medication and antibiotics as well as feeding these three-week-old kittens every few hours. They will need surgery to completely repair their injuries, but they’re just too small right now.
Your donation is urgently needed to provide the supportive care they need until they’re big enough for surgery. Please donate now, and your gift will be DOUBLED by a generous matching donor through August 31.

Just a few minutes after filling Aslyn’s water bowl, it was completely empty. So we filled it again, and the same thing happened again. Soon we realized that something might be happening in Aslyn’s tiny, fluffy body.

Further diagnostics revealed that Aslyn has a rare condition called diabetes insipidus, otherwise known as water diabetes! His little body doesn’t properly produce the hormone that regulates water intake, so without medication, Aslyn can drink dozens of ounces of water per day.

While his condition is rare and might sound scary, it’s really not! Aslyn will live a totally normal, healthy life as long as his adopter does one of two things: 1) keep him on an inexpensive medication for life. He’s a great eater, so he takes his medication easily in food. Or 2) ensure that Aslyn always has access to more water than he could ever need and change his litter box frequently.

That’s it! Not so scary, right? This little fluff ball deserves to have a loving family of his own- let’s make it happen! If you think Aslyn would make a perfect addition to your home, please fill out the pre-adoption application, and an Atlanta Humane Society Adoption Counselor will review your application and be in touch as soon as possible!

Have you received a call from 404-479-1468? It’s us telefundraising to save animal lives! We are working with our fundraising partner, DVCanvass, to call donors, adopters and other supporters on our behalf. They are signing up supporters to give monthly donations, which will save thousands of animal’s lives a year.

Your support is needed now more than ever, as AHS is providing providing resources for pets whose families have fallen on hard times due to COVID-19. Above all, we want to ensure that pets can stay with their loving families. This is in addition to our regular mission of rescuing homeless animals, caring for them and finding them loving homes.

While we especially appreciate our ongoing monthly gifts, donors who wish to make a 1-time gift can do so. Our enthusiastic canvassers love animals as much as we do, and are really enjoying talking with other animal lovers on our behalf. Answer the call, and help us save animal lives!

If you have questions or would like to speak with AHS staff about a call you received, please contact Stacy Guidice at 404-974-2840 or [email protected]

As an 8-month-old Great Dane puppy, Smokey should be energetic and playful, but instead, every step causes him immense pain.

Tragically Smokey was hit by a car, and his injuries weren’t treated right away, which caused further complications and severe muscle atrophy in his back legs.

He was transferred to the Atlanta Humane Society from another shelter that didn’t have the resources to provide Smokey the level of care he needed. After several examinations and consultations, we now know that Smokey will need a special orthopedic surgery to correct the damage done to his pelvis and hip joint.

Smokey has happily been adopted by his amazing foster family, who will continue to care for him during his journey to recovery.

Animals just like Smokey need your support, and right now your donation will be doubled thanks to Charles and Virginia Bagley who created a designated fund at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta to benefit the Atlanta Humane Society in perpetuity.

Your donation will help us care for this precious dog, and animals just like him who need our help.
