Foster First Program

We helped to increase the chance of a good adoption match and encourage adopters to see how an animal fit into their day-to-day lives by offering a Foster First Program. This program enables adopters to take certain adoptable animals home for two weeks and see how they mesh with their lifestyles. During this time, we provide them with behavior support, advice, and guidance on how to ensure the animal settles in. Usually, the adoption is finalized after this two-week period, but when it’s not a good match, we welcome the animal back into our care with additional knowledge and insight into what lifestyle might be a good fit for them in the future.

Brock, a 2-year-old bulldog mix, has been in our care since February. Because he is strong, pulls on his leash, and is full of energy, adopters were overlooking him. Our Behavior Team has been providing him specialized training plans and working with Brock to learn better manners and redirect his energy. Just last week, a family was interested in seeing how Brock fit into their family and they enrolled into our Foster First Program. Our Adoptions Team has been keeping in contact with them, providing them advice, and ensuring that Brock is settling in with the high hopes that, after spending two weeks with him, his adoption will be finalized.
