ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING AN AHS VOLUNTEER?

Do you love spending time with animals? If so, we need you! We have multiple ways to get involved in a volunteer capacity at Atlanta Humane Society. Our volunteer opportunities include:

  • Adoption Volunteer

    We rely on our dedicated volunteers to socialize and walk our animals, interact with the public and share our  mission for helping find our dogs and cats loving homes. Volunteers must make a commitment of 6 hours  per month, be at least 16 years of age, have good communication skills and a desire to work with the public  and animals. Sign up for our Volunteer Orientation Classes here if you are interested in becoming an adoption  volunteer. 
  • Greeter/Shop Assistant Volunteer

    Volunteers are needed to assist the public in the selection of pet supplies and answer questions about adopting. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. 
  • Special Events Volunteer

    Volunteers are needed to represent the AHS at special events. Volunteers may be required to assist with check-in, provide directions, set-up and/or clean-up and any other special needs (such as item sales). Our Special Events Volunteers must have the ability to meet deadlines and be flexible with job assignments. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

  • Visiting Pet Program Volunteer

    Volunteers must be able to confidently and comfortably handle animals on visits, follow appropriate PFT (Pet Facilitated Therapy) guidelines and be able to make a monthly commitment. Looking for volunteers who can relate to geriatric, pediatric, handicapped and emotionally disabled clients, and be able to handle animals on visits. You must be 18 years of age with a valid drivers license and insurance. 
  • Foster Care Volunteer

    The AHS foster care program places special needs animals into warm, nurturing environments that can provide consistent care. Volunteers are needed to care for not-quite-adoptable (too young, too old, unsocialized, or treatably ill) animals’ in your home until they can be placed for adoption. Must be at least 18 years of age, and have a home set-up that will facilitate special-needs animals. A home check is required.
  • Animal Admission Volunteer

    Volunteers are needed to assist the AHS intake department in helping with incoming animals and processing their paperwork. This may include bathing animals and/or clerical duties. Must be at least 18 years of age, have general clerical skills, the ability to work with the public and assist staff in assigned areas.
  • Administrative Assistant Volunteer

    Volunteers are needed to assist Volunteer Services, Special Events or Fund Development departments with general office duties, clerical duties, and data entry. Must be at least 16 years of age, and have legible handwriting and recording ability. Computer literacy a plus.
  • Hoparound Hound Costume Character

    Acts as a positive role model for the AHS at public events. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age, be able to handle crowds effectively and be animated in a bulky costume. An outgoing and entertaining attitude is essential!
  • Heartbank Volunteer

    Looking for volunteers to assist in fundraising endeavors for the Society. Volunteers place collection banks in approved locations and collect and deliver monies from these banks at least once a month to the Shelter during regular business hours or by mail. Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Social Media Volunteer

    This is an opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering at home or at the facility to create content for AHS’ social media outlets. These include Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Pinterest and more. You must have your own email address, access to a computer and working knowledge of previously mentioned sites. Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Photographer/Videographer

    Volunteers are needed to take pictures and shoot videos of our adoptable animals on a weekly basis for the adoption section of our website. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
