Right before the holidays, Athena experienced a huge loss. Her owner passed away, and she found herself homeless and hopeless. She had lived her entire life outside and was desperate for love and for a place to call home.
As soon as Athena walked through the doors of our Mansell location, we immediately noticed the huge scar on her back. While we don’t know the origin of her scar, we promised Athena right then and there that she would never experience pain like that ever again.
Athena was spayed, updated on vaccinations, microchipped, and given a warm bed to sleep on inside her cozy kennel. She settled in and looked up as if to say, “thank you”. We wondered if it was the first time she had ever had a warm bed inside.
Because she was kept outside and was not given heartworm preventative, Athena was diagnosed with heartworm disease, but she is receiving all the love and care she needs to heal, and her treatment will be completed at no cost to her adopter.
