Billions Hero

Hi, I’m Billions.

For a while, it was just me and my mom, trying to make it through something hard. She’d left a dangerous situation behind, and she was doing everything she could to rebuild our life.

But even love can’t fix everything when you’re starting from scratch. She needed help. And so did I.

That’s when someone stepped in—a foster for the Pets in Crisis Support Program. They gave me care, attention, and a place to feel safe. They made sure I didn’t carry the stress that I know my mom was feeling.

While I stayed with them, my mom worked to get us back to where we belonged. And it worked. We’re together again now, starting fresh. Stronger.

But there are more pets like me—more people like my mom—who just need time and support to keep going.

Fostering through the Pets in Crisis Support Program helps families stay together. It’s not forever. It’s a lifeline.

If you can open your home, even for a short time, you’ll give someone the space to heal and you’ll keep their pet safe until they can.

Just like someone did for me.

Please, be the reason another family stays together. Visit atlantahumane.org/pets-in-crisis to get started.

From lifesaving rescues and medical recoveries to community partnerships and statewide impact, this year was defined by compassion in action. As we look back month by month, these moments reflect the dedication of our staff, volunteers, partners, and supporters who helped create a better future for animals and the people who love them.

January Square

January

Our Animal Protection Unit rescued more than 120 dogs from a puppy mill in South Georgia, including Malteses, Boston Terriers, Pomeranians, Shih Tzus, and Dachshunds. After being removed from severe neglect, the dogs entered our care and began receiving medical treatment, nourishment, and comfort for the first time in their lives.

Shelter Improvements Square

February

The Rachael Ray Foundation provided incredible funding that allowed us to transform under-resourced animal shelters across Georgia, providing safer, more comfortable environments for pets in need of forever homes. Through their funding, we also opened applications for another year of shelter improvement projects.

March Square Behavior Dogs

March

More than 30 dogs were rescued from a situation of severe neglect, many suffering from malnutrition, flea infestations, and even gunshot wounds. Fearful and unsure of humans, they began working with our behavior team to build trust and confidence, learning that people can be a source of safety and care.

Rupert Square1

April

At just eight weeks old, we brought Rupert into our care with a painful leg deformity. After a careful evaluation, amputation was determined to be the best path forward. He began his recovery in a loving foster home, where the comfort and calm of a real home helped him heal both physically and emotionally. Today, Rupert is thriving in a loving home.

May

We reached a major milestone for animal welfare in Georgia with a $2.5 million grant from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. This transformative investment will allow us to expand emergency sheltering, strengthen disaster response and cruelty investigations, and deliver critical resources to shelters and pet families across all 159 Georgia counties.

Cricket Square

June

When we rescued Cricket from a home with over 30 cats in hazardous conditions, she weighed in at only one pound and she had a broken leg. At first, we feared her leg might need to be amputated, but with weeks of care from our Shelter Medicine Team, and rest and love in a foster home, she regained her strength and her leg healed completely.

Yuri Square2

July

Yuri was found alone, tiny, and struggling with a severe upper respiratory infection. He received round-the-clock care from our Shelter Medicine Team and the attention and comfort of a dedicated foster home. With time, treatment, and gentle support, Yuri regained his strength, learned to play and explore, and is now thriving in his forever home.

Vaccine Clinic

August

We continued our commitment to helping pets stay with their families by reducing financial barriers to essential veterinary care through weekly low-cost vaccine clinics at our Roswell and Marietta locations, and weekly affordable spay and neuter clinics at our Atlanta location.

Biskit Square

September

Biskit’s family faced heartbreaking loss and uncertainty after the passing of a spouse and struggles with housing instability. Through it all, Biskit remained a source of comfort, especially for their young daughter. When the family reached out for help, our Pets in Crisis Support Program stepped in. Biskit was placed in a temporary foster home, giving the family peace of mind while they rebuilt. When the family was ready, they were reunited. Today, they are stable and looking forward to their future together.

October Square

October

Over 80 French Bulldogs and Pekingese were rescued from dire neglect, living in filthy, cramped conditions with little to no food or water. Many were suffering from severe skin issues, mobility problems, and other injuries, including mothers caring for newborn puppies. Our Animal Protection Unit stepped in to provide emergency medical care, nourishment, and safe housing, beginning the long process of healing and recovery for these animals.

Thanksgiving Meals Square

November

This Thanksgiving, the pets in our care enjoyed a special holiday feast thanks to our compassionate community. With freshly prepared meals of pumpkin, green beans, and chicken, tails wagged and purrs rumbled as animals experienced warmth, comfort, and care. Our community’s support turned an ordinary day into a celebration for pets who need it most.

Pet Food Square

December

We partnered with Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier to host a community vaccine clinic, providing free veterinary care, pet food, and essential resources to more than 100 pets. The event brought vital support directly to families and animals in need, helping keep pets healthy and safe during the holiday season.

December 8, 2025

This Giving Tuesday, our community came together in an incredible way and created meaningful change. More than $100,000 was raised to provide urgent medical care, safe shelter, and second chances to pets and the people who love them.

But the impact of Giving Tuesday wasn’t just measured in dollars raised. While our community was giving, we were giving back.

Yesterday, we partnered with the Atlanta Falcons Running Back Tyler Allgeier to host a community clinic where 100+ pets received free veterinary care, pet food, and essential resources.

It was a Giving Tuesday that truly reflected our commitment to keeping pets and families supported.

This Giving Tuesday, more than $100,000 was raised to provide urgent medical care, safe shelter, and second chances to animals and the people who need it most.

This support will help more animals like Wally and Murphy, who were able to recover from a life-threatening illness after around-the-clock care. It will power our Animal Protection Unit. It will strengthen the programs that support families facing hardships and help pets stay with the people who love them.

Together, we can ensure that both animals and the people who love them will have access to the care and stability they need.

Day of GT, Parvo Puppies Hero Image

Puppies like Wally and Murphy only survive because people like you choose to step in when it matters most.

And because it’s Giving Tuesday, your compassion will be 4X matched, giving fragile lives four times the chance to heal.

When Wally and Murphy were carried through our doors, they could barely lift their heads. Parvovirus had drained their tiny bodies. Our team rushed to help them, but it is the support from caring friends like you that makes lifesaving treatment possible.

Around-the-clock monitoring, fluids, and constant support gave Wally and Murphy their chance to survive. Cases like theirs are physically and emotionally demanding, but we are committed to saving every animal we can.

Your gift today can give that same hope to the next puppy who needs immediate help. With the 4X match, your generosity reaches even farther and gives more vulnerable animals the strength to keep fighting.

This opportunity will not last, and animals in critical condition need help right now. Please give today and make four times the impact for puppies who are waiting for someone to save them.

Monday Pre GT Story, Bunni Hero Image

Bunni’s recovery begins with people like you. And today, your gift will be quadrupled to save 4X the animals like her.

Bunni arrived in critical condition… dangerously thin and suffering from multiple mammary tumors including two confirmed carcinomas. Her chest mass was ulcerated and draining, her gums were pale, and her fragile body was exhausted.

Because of supporters like you, animals in Bunni’s condition can receive immediate and lifesaving treatment from our Shelter Medicine Team. Her wounds can be cleaned and treated, her pain can be managed, and a careful nutrition plan can be put in place to help her rebuild strength. This is the level of care your compassion fuels… the hope it provides.

Right now, your Giving Tuesday gift will be 4X matched, providing four times the healing, four times the comfort, and four times the hope for animals like Bunni who urgently need lifesaving treatment.

Give now to help Bunni and your gift will be made 4X stronger.

Yuri’s world had completely fallen apart when he was found all alone, sick, and fighting to survive. But with the power of the 4X match for Giving Tuesday, everything can change for animals like him.

He was just a tiny kitten trying to survive outside while battling a severe upper respiratory infection… he was fragile and desperately in need of care.

This Giving Tuesday, your compassion will provide the safety, warmth, and care that animals like Yuri need. Your support is what turns fearful, vulnerable animals into healthy ones who are ready to thrive.

Your 4X matched gift today provides critical medical treatment, warm shelter, and round the clock care to kittens like Yuri. Please give now. Your support means survival and hope for the next little one waiting for love.

Thanksgiving is about comfort and connection but for the animals waiting in our care, it is a day that can feel like any other… unless someone like you steps in.

When you sponsor a Thanksgiving meal with a gift of $25 or more, you’ll provide a feast of pumpkin, green beans, and freshly baked chicken for the dogs and cats spending Thanksgiving with us.

And this year, your kindness will reach even further. Every donation is 4X matched, turning one act of compassion into four times the impact for animals who need it most.

Every year, compassionate supporters like you make it possible for thousands of pets to find safety and love. This Thanksgiving, your kindness can also fill their day with warmth, care, and a delicious holiday feast.

Please turn an ordinary day into something truly special for the animals in our care and give them something to be thankful for this holiday season.
