Beagle Hero

Every minute matters when animals have nowhere else to turn. And when you give right now, your gift will be matched 4X to help us care for the 25 beagles we rescued over the holiday.

When our Animal Protection Unit learned of a hoarding investigation, it didn’t matter that it was 2 days before Christmas. Our staff worked together to quickly coordinate transport, prepare space, and travel to bring these beagles into our care.

Several of the beagles have visible tumors or masses that will require further veterinary evaluation. Many are dealing with ongoing skin issues and noticeable hair loss. Most will need dental care after going without routine treatment for far too long.

For these dogs who have lived in overcrowded and unstable conditions, even this first step into safety is overwhelming. We can give them a safe place to land. But their path forward depends on people like you.

The medical evaluations, the ongoing treatment, the patience it takes to rebuild trust — all of it requires resources and we can only mobilize with your help.

Your4X matched gift means more diagnostics, more treatment, and more resources for dogs who are just beginning to understand what safety feels like.

Please give now because this 4X match opportunity is almost over, and their needs cannot wait.

P.S. The window to multiply your impact 4X closes at midnight on December 31. Please give now to ensure we can keep showing up for animals like these beagles, no matter the day or the circumstance.

Every year, Santa double-checks his list… but we figured we’d help him out by highlighting a few of our pets who have been very busy spreading holiday cheer (and, occasionally, chaos).

Naughty List

Ribbon

Ribbon swears she wasn’t unwrapping presents, but she is convinced that ribbons and bows solely exist for her personal enrichment. She knows the holiday season is all about her.

Bo DSC00204 Square
Bo

Bo firmly believes the ornaments are dog toys in disguise. The lower half of the Christmas tree has been… redecorated. If it clatters, sparkles, or rolls, it belongs to him now.

Meet Bo
Nyla square
Nyla

Nyla just wanted to see if Santa had arrived early, so she stuck her nose deep into the stockings. She may or may not have sampled the goodies inside, but her tail was wagging the whole time.

Meet Nyla
Gravy DSCF3309 Square
Gravy

Gravy has a talent for mischief. He insists he definitely didn’t crawl inside of the Christmas tree, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Meet Gravy
jazzy square
Jazzy

Jazzy thinks stockings are toys and that treats are hers by default. Sharing is not part of her holiday plan.

Meet Jazzy
Otis DSC09771 Square
Otis

Otis gets a bit too excited about holiday chaos and may have tried to unwrap a present early. His enthusiasm makes every day feel like Christmas morning.

Nice List

Abigail DSC00927 Square
Abigail

Abigail has been a perfect little angel, supervising holiday decorating with grace and zero ornament theft. She is the sweetest present you could ever ask for.

Meet Abigail
Buck DSC09405 Square
Buck

Buck has been spreading endless joy with his goofy grin and big heart. He helped wrap presents (mostly by sitting on the wrapping paper) and has kept the holiday spirit high with lots of snuggles.

lokey sqaure
Lokey

Lokey hasn’t touched a single decoration, doesn’t climb the tree, and politely watches the snow (or the birds in the yard) from the window. He is truly an angel among cats.

Piper DSC00630 Square
Piper

Piper is ready to be Santa’s best helper with her calm and gentle nature. She’s happiest cuddling up and enjoying peaceful winter moments.

cat adoptions atlanta humane

Cats are incredibly smart and very trainable when you work with their natural instincts. Training is not about control. It’s about communication, trust, and positive experiences.

Here are practical, humane training tips that actually work.

Use Positive Reinforcement Only
  • Cats learn best when good things follow good behavior. Reward actions you like with treats, praise, play, or affection. Punishment creates fear and damages trust with your cat.
Keep Sessions Short
  • Cats do best with quick, fun training sessions. Aim for 1 to 5 minutes at a time, a few times a day. Always end on a success, even if it’s a small one.
Know What Motivates Your Cat
  • Every cat is different. Some work for food, others for play or affection. Figure out what your cat loves most and use that as the reward.
Start With Simple Behaviors
  • Begin with behaviors your cat already does naturally. Great starters include coming when called, sitting, using a scratching post, or entering a carrier.
Set Up the Environment
  • Training works best when the environment supports your goals. Place scratching posts where your cat already scratches and create positive associations with carriers and new spaces.

Travel with pets blog hero

With the Holiday season approaching, we know that means travel for a lot of families. Traveling with animals can be stressful, but here are some helpful tips that can help relieve stress for you and your animals.

  • When flying, it’s important to make sure your pet is healthy enough to travel, up to date on vaccines, and ready for the journey. Most airlines require a health certificate signed by a veterinarian, whether your pet is traveling in the cabin or as cargo. Keep in mind that vet appointments can book up quickly during the holiday season, so schedule early.
  • Carry your pet’s food, treats, and medication with you. For flying, it’s always best to keep these essentials in your carry-on, because travel can be unpredictable. If your checked luggage is delayed or goes missing, you’ll have everything your pet needs. Even if you’re driving, keeping treats handy can also make it easier for your pet to adjust to its new surroundings.
  • Keeping your pets hydrated is essential whether traveling by car or plane. Make sure you carry a travel water bottle and bowl so your pets can stay hydrated.
  • Packing their favorite things can make a stressful day feel soothing. If your pet is a nervous traveler, having familiar items from home can help calm their nerves. You could even reach out to your veterinarian to discuss safe medications or supplements that may help your pet during travel.

By planning ahead and keeping these tips in mind, you can help ensure a safer, calmer, and more enjoyable holiday trip for both you and your pets.

APU Visuals Hero Image

Behind every rescue is a moment when an animal waits in fear, unsure if help will come. Your support is what sends our team to their door, ready to act… Ready to step into the hardest situations and make hope possible.

This year, our Animal Protection Unit has faced some of the toughest rescues in our state’s history. Hundreds of animals have been saved from neglect and cruelty, and each one of them is now safe because of compassionate people like you.

This Giving Tuesday, your compassion can go even further because every gift will be matched 4X, multiplying your impact for the animals who need you most.

Your support powers every rescue, every transport, and every moment of care that follows. It is the reason frightened animals find safety, medical attention, and the chance to experience love for the very first time.

And now, when your gift is 4X matched for Giving Tuesday, that love and safety will reach even more animals waiting for help.

Together, we can make sure every animal knows what it means to be safe and loved.
