Brynn finally got the life she deserves.
Not long ago, Brynn was fighting through pain caused by severe medical neglect. She needed lifesaving surgery after our Shelter Medicine Team discovered one of her kidneys was no longer functioning.
After surgery, Brynn recovered in a loving foster home where she could finally rest, heal, and experience comfort and care.
Today, she is adopted and living with a family who loves her. She’s safe, healthy, and finally getting the life every dog deserves.
Every day, animals arrive needing urgent medical care, lifesaving surgery, and the chance to heal from neglect and suffering. Stories like Brynn’s are possible because compassionate people choose to step in during an animal’s most vulnerable moment.
Together, we can give more animals the second chances they deserve.

Update: June 3, 2026

When our Shelter Medicine team discovered one of Brynn’s kidneys was no longer functioning, we moved quickly to get her the lifesaving surgery she desperately needed.
When Brynn came out of surgery, her healing was just beginning. She needed pain medication, careful monitoring, follow up treatment, and time to recover after living in pain for far too long.
Too many animals arrive after suffering silently for weeks, months, or even years without treatment. By the time they reach us, they are often facing painful conditions that cannot wait. They need immediate medical attention, emergency surgery, and intensive recovery care.
But it is only with your support that we can be there for an animal’s most critical moment, and continue caring for them long after surgery is over.
Please make your 2X matched Day of Giving gift now and help provide lifesaving care for vulnerable animals who have nowhere else to turn.

Brynn Hero Image
Brynn was rescued from a heartbreaking, neglect situation involving more than 25 beagles and today, your gift will go twice as far to provide the lifesaving medical care animals like Brynn need.
The neglect caused catastrophic damage for Brynn. One of her kidneys was filling with fluid and the tissue was dying. She needed surgery, and she needed it quickly. But this level of care is only possible because people like you care.
When you give today, your gift will be 2X matched to help provide the surgery, treatment, and ongoing care animals like Brynn need.
For animals rescued from cruelty and neglect, every hour matters. That’s why your support during Day of Giving is so critical. It allows us to be there when animals need us most.
Please make your 2X matched Day of Giving gift today and save more lives.

Dog Save the Date Hero Image
Every day, vulnerable animals and families across our community are waiting for someone to step in.
  • A dog recovering from neglect
  • A litter of kittens needing a safe place
  • A frightened animal rescued from dangerous conditions
  • A family with no where else to turn
Behind every success story is someone like you. Someone who acts.
On June 11, our Day of Giving will bring our community together to provide lifesaving care, emergency rescue, shelter, and support for animals and the people who love them.
But you do not have to wait to make a difference.
A generous 2X match is already active, which means every gift you make will go twice as far.
The challenges facing animals and families in our community are growing every day. But so is the impact of people willing to show up for them.
  • Your $25 gifts becomes $50 to provide food and resources to a struggling pet owner.
  • Your $50 gift becomes $100 to place a rescued animal on the path to recovery.
  • Your $100 gift becomes $200 to help ensure an animal facing cruelty or neglect is not left waiting for help.
As you save the date for June 11, we hope you will make an early 2X matched gift today and help create more stories of safety, healing, and second chances.

Zeus was seized from his home after being found living in overcrowded conditions with multiple dogs in a small space. His owners cared about their animals, but lacked the resources and education needed to provide proper care. At intake, Zeus weighed just 82 pounds and was suffering from a severe parasite infestation that over the counter treatments had not resolved.

Our Shelter Medicine Team provided the treatment, nutrition, and ongoing monitoring Zeus needed to recover safely. Our Foster Team quickly found a home where Zeus could recover comfortably. Over the following weeks, he steadily gained weight, regained his strength, and grew into a healthy dog weighing 110 pounds.

Today, Zeus is thriving in a loving home with a family ready to give him the care and stability he deserves.

Stories like Zeus’ are only possible because of the support of our community, whose generosity makes lifesaving care and second chances possible for animals who need us most.

Hector was transferred into our care because he was suffering from a leg fracture that required advanced medical treatment.

After thorough examinations and diagnostics with our Shelter Medicine Team, it was determined that the injury had already begun healing improperly, and amputating the leg would give Hector the best long term quality of life. Following surgery, Hector recovered in a foster home where he could stay comfortable and continue healing with individualized care and attention. Today, Hector is thriving in a loving, forever home.

It is only with the support of our community that we’re able to provide advanced medical care for animals like Hector and give shelter partners a place to turn when pets need more than basic treatment. Thank you for being part of that community.

Fin was just a few months old and weighed only 2 pounds when he was found alone in the middle of a road in downtown Atlanta. No siblings or mother were found nearby, and he was brought into our care to receive the support a growing kitten desperately needed.

Once safe with us, Fin was placed in a foster home where he slowly transformed from a frightened kitten into a trusting, affectionate cuddle bug. With patience, care, and time, he learned to feel safe and loved. Today, Fin is thriving in a home of his own.

Every meal, veterinary exam, and night in foster care that helped Fin reach his happy ending was made possible by supporters who believe every animal deserves a chance.

Summer Weekends Graphics hero image

Keeping pets mentally and physically stimulated is an important part of helping them live happy & healthy lives. Here are some simple activities at home that can help reduce boredom, ease stress, and strengthen the bond between you and your pet.

DIY Frozen Treats
  • DIY frozen snacks are an easy and affordable way to keep pets entertained while giving them a tasty treat. For dogs, you can fill a rubber toy or silicone mold with pet safe ingredients like peanut butter, plain yogurt, pumpkin puree, or wet food and freeze it overnight.
  • Cats can enjoy frozen enrichment too, especially during warmer months. Try freezing small portions of wet cat food, tuna water, or treats into ice cube trays for a fun snack.
Vertical Spaces for Climbing
  • Vertical climbing is especially important for cats because it allows them to express natural behaviors like climbing, perching, and observing their surroundings from above.
  • Having access to high spaces can also help nervous cats feel safer and more confident in their environment.
Sniff & Explore Activities
  • Sniff based enrichment can help build confidence, reduce stress, and slow down fast eaters in a fun and engaging way.
  • A dog’s sense of smell is incredibly powerful, and activities that involve sniffing can help mentally tire them out just as much as physical exercise. Cats can enjoy scent based enrichment too. Hiding treats around the house, using puzzle feeders, or offering safe scents like catnip can encourage natural hunting and exploration behaviors.

Every pet is different, so the best enrichment is whatever safely encourages your pet to play, explore, and engage with their environment.

Bringing home a new pet is exciting, but a little prep goes a long way in helping them feel safe and settle in faster.

Create a Safe Space

it’s a good idea to create a quiet, designated space where they can decompress. This area can include a comfortable bed, fresh water, and a few toys so they a place to relax and adjust during those first few days.

Pet-proof Your Home

Secure loose cords, keep trash cans covered, and make sure toxic plants, cleaning supplies, medications, and small objects are safely out of reach. Think of it as baby-proofing, this is your new child after all!

Plan Introductions Carefully

If you’re introducing your new pet to other pets at home, it is very important to take things slowly. This allows your new pet to explore at their own pace while keeping initial interactions calm and supervised, while setting the stage for a positive relationship.

Plan for the First Few Days

Your new pet may be nervous at first and could exhibit behaviors like hiding or whining. Keeping things low-key and avoiding overwhelming them with too many visitors can help ease the transition. Patience and understanding go a long way during this time.

Find your Vet & Resources

Finally, make sure you have a veterinarian lined up and are familiar with local pet resources. Remedy Vet is operated by the Atlanta Humane Society and provides affordable veterinary services to pet owners in need by appointment only. Click here to learn more about Remedy.

It has been nearly one week since Darla was fitted for her leg braces, and she is already making wonderful progress. This step was an important part of her recovery plan, helping provide the support she needs as she continues to build strength and mobility.

Alongside her braces, Darla is staying consistent with her rehabilitation routine. She participates in water therapy to safely strengthen her muscles and continues working through her structured rehab plan.

A big step forward for Darla.

Darla had her brace fitting. While it will be a few weeks before her custom brace is ready, she will soon begin physical therapy to help her learn how to move more comfortably and build strength, including water treadmill sessions and hands on support, along with daily exercises to help stabilize her joints as she grows.

Darla blog update 2

Darla’s front legs aren’t supporting her. We’ve made a commitment to do everything we can to help, but she needs you too. Right now, your gift will be 3X matched to support her care. We scheduled Darla an appointment with an orthopedic specialist, and this is where we learned the truth.

This wasn’t something she was born with… something happened to her. Both of her front legs have been damaged. The cause is still unclear, but it is likely due to malnutrition, neglect, trauma, or a combination of these. The pain she must have felt in her past is unimaginable. But your gift right now will be tripled to help Darla get the future she deserves.

Darla’s diagnosis means working with specialists. It means custom braces and physical therapy. But with your help, we will give her the support she’ll need every step of the way. Because she deserves the chance to stand, to walk, and to just be a puppy.

When you give right now, your gift will be tripled to help make this possible.

Darla Deformed Front Paws Hero Image

Right now, every gift for Darla is tripled and she needs help immediately. When first meeting 3 month old Darla, it becomes immediately clear that something is wrong with her front legs. She should be running freely like other puppies, but for Darla, just standing is a struggle.

Every movement takes effort. Every step is uncertain. And she’s learned to cope with discomfort and pain that no puppy should ever have to feel. But you can give her the chance at a healthy and happy future.

We’ve committed to being there for Darla every step of the way. Through every appointment, every adjustment, every small bit of progress.

But we can’t do it without you. When you give today, your gift will be tripled to provide second chances for animals like Darla.

She’s only 3 months old. She should have her whole life ahead of her. With your help, we can be there for every step of her journey.

jericho hero

With Jericho being one of our longest residents, he’s had plenty of time to dream up his ideal weekend routine. It starts with a walk where he can take his time, approaching new scents and experiences with curiosity and excitement. Jericho is a true gentle giant and loves to spend his weekends close to his people, often leaning in for scratches and offering his trust.

His energy can sometimes match his size, which is why he would love to spend his time with someone steady by his side. A dependable friend who can handle his eagerness to learn and remind him how to slow down, check in, and stay grounded.

When the weekend winds down, Jericho is happiest settling in close. With consistency and guidance, his sweet side shines, and he just might become the 85 pound lap dog you’ve been looking for. Want to spend every weekend with Jericho? Click here to learn more about adopting.
