2024 Impact Report

As one of Georgia’s most trusted animal welfare organizations, we have continued to provide lifesaving services, rescue animals in need, and support our community’s pet families. These numbers reflect the collective efforts of our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners who have come together to create a lasting impact.

Through innovative programs, increased outreach, and an unwavering commitment to our vision, we are proud to share how our collective work impacted the lives of 143,407 animals across our community in 2024.

Supporting Communities across Georgia

At Atlanta Humane, our reach extends far beyond Atlanta. In 2024, we proudly served 107 unique counties across Georgia, providing critical support and resources to communities in need. These united efforts reflect our deep commitment to making a lasting difference across the Southeast.

Resource Center

Our bilingual Resource Center assisted more than 25,000 community members in finding the animal welfare resources they needed, whether it was guidance on adoption, access to affordable veterinary care, or answers to questions about caring for their pets.

Pet Food

Pet Food Support

Our Community Initiatives Team works closely with human service and animal welfare organizations to provide free pet food to those who need it. In 2024, we provided 1,033,086 pounds of free pet food to our community partners.

Spay and Neuter Support

In addition to providing care for the animals in our shelters, our Shelter Medicine Team also provides reduced-cost spay and neuter surgeries to other animal welfare groups who don’t have a robust Shelter Medicine Program. Last year, they performed a total of 7,100 spay and neuter surgeries, including those performed on animals at Atlanta Humane.

Pets in Crisis Support

Our new Pets in Crisis Support Program provides temporary foster housing to pets of families who are facing the crisis of housing instability, domestic violence, or a health emergency for up to 90 days so these pets can be reunited with their families. Last year, we helped 477 animals through this program.

Animal Protection Unit

In 2024, our Animal Protection Unit deployed six times to address urgent situations, including cases of cruelty and neglect. We take pride in our ability to respond swiftly, providing safety and compassionate care to animals in their greatest moments of need.

Shelter Medicine

Our Shelter Medicine Team is one of the first stops for every animal who comes through our door. They provide these animals with a head-to-toe exam and specialized medical care as needed. Last year, they treated 451 animals who were suffering from illness or disease.

Foster Program

Our foster network has grown as we’ve placed more animals into foster homes to allow for us to intake more animals into our shelters. Last year, we had 600 active foster families who took 2,064 animals into their homes.

Adoptions

In 2024, Atlanta Humane helped 3,866 animals begin new chapters of their lives by placing them into loving, forever homes. These moments are made possible by the dedication of our team, volunteers, and supporters who believe that every animal deserves a chance to find love and belonging.
