When Max’s mom reached out to us, she was terrified. After leaving an abusive home, she was working to rebuild her life while facing the painful possibility of losing the one who had helped her survive it — her dog, Max.
“Max is not just a pet; he is my family. He has been my emotional anchor, helping me navigate the darkest moments of my life. I cannot bear the thought of losing him,” she wrote.
The thought of being separated from Max broke her heart, but she had nowhere safe for him to go while she searched for stability. She just needed someone to keep him safe until she could get back on her feet.
Through our Pets in Crisis Support Program, Max was placed in a loving foster home while his mom focused on finding safety and rebuilding her life.

Now, Max and his mom are together again. They’re safe, rebuilding, and starting their next chapter side by side.
Stories like Max’s are made possible by the fosters and supporters who make our Pets in Crisis Support Program a reality. Together, we help families stay together when it matters most.
