When life falls apart, sometimes the only thing that keeps someone going is the steady presence of their pet. For many in our community, pets are more than companions. They are family, comfort, and hope when everything else feels uncertain.

Our Pets in Crisis Support Program exists to make sure that bond is never broken. It provides safe, temporary care for pets whose families are going through housing instability, domestic violence, or sudden emergencies.

Recently, four families were reunited with their pets through this program in a single weekend. Four animals went home. Four people found comfort again.

Each story is different, but every one of them reminds us how powerful the bond between people and their pets can be.

Blaze’s Story

When Blaze’s owner left an abusive relationship, her only thought was keeping them both safe. Her abuser had begun threatening to harm Blaze. She made the painful decision to leave and start over, asking for help to care for him while she rebuilt her life.

She wrote to us, saying, “I am a veteran and a hard worker. It will not even take me 90 days to have him back, I promise. I do not want to lose him. He’s all I have in this world that is all mine.

And she kept her promise. She found a home, lined up work, and returned for Blaze once she was stable and able to provide everything he needed. During that time, the Pets in Crisis Support Program made sure Blaze was comforted and loved.

When they were reunited, it wasn’t just a happy ending. It was a reminder of why this program matters. Because of your support, Blaze’s owner didn’t have to choose between safety and her beloved dog. She got both.

Sumiko’s Story

A house fire left Sumiko’s owner without a place to live, they were sleeping in her car due to the struggle of finding pet-friendly housing. Through the Pets in Crisis Support Program, Sumiko was cared for while her mom focused on rebuilding her life. That support gave her space to recover from the trauma of losing everything, and the comfort of knowing her pet was safe.

Yang’s Story

After losing her job and home, Yang’s mom was living out of her car. During this time, her biggest concern was for her dog’s well-being while she searched for work. Our program provided a safe place for Yang, allowing his mom to focus on finding stability without fear of losing her best friend.

King’s Story

When a fire displaced King’s family, they lost nearly all of their belongings but never their love for him. With the help of the Pets in Crisis Support Program, King was placed in temporary care until his family found a new home. Their reunion was filled with joy and relief, knowing they could start fresh together.

The Power of Community

When people face crisis, it takes a community to help them find their footing again. The Pets in Crisis Support Program is a reflection of that shared care — neighbors, donors, volunteers, fosters, and staff all coming together to make sure no one has to face hardship alone.

Thank you for being part of our community. You help keep families together.
