As we enter 2018 — a year that promises many new challenges — I’m hopeful that I can count on your renewed support for the Atlanta Humane Society (AHS).
Your kindhearted generosity gives second chances to many vulnerable dogs and cats like Whitaker and Apricot.
Sweet Whitaker, a tiny Maltese mix, had become a victim to the deadly disease Parvo. We knew something was wrong when Whitaker became weak, dehydrated and lethargic. While Parvo is a harsh reality that most shelters are unable to treat, thanks to your support, our Shelter Medicine Team is able to provide loving care and Parvo treatment for animals like Whitaker. But this disease is hard to fight, and sometimes, even with the best of care, our Parvo patients don’t make it. Your gift today will help the animals battling Parvo who need your support to survive.
When beautiful Apricot, a long-haired, multi-colored tiger kitty came to us, she had painful abscesses covering her paws, and she’d recently had one of her back legs amputated. We think she was hit by a car and was left to wander. She was in pain, but quickly realized she was safe at AHS.
We gave her love, medical care and a warm, comfy place to rest and heal. She quickly adapted to life on three legs, won our hearts, and was adopted as soon as she was ready! Your support allows us to provide animals like Apricot with the care and attention they need to survive and thrive.
These are just two of the animals who rely on you for their lives. But there are many others.
In the last year, your support also helped AHS:
- Place 11,000 dogs and cats in forever homes
- Spay or neuter 12,100 pets to prevent overpopulation
- Rescue 1,000 animals from harm’s way in hurricane areas, puppy mills, hoarding environments and other inhumane situations
- And so much more!
This is all wonderful progress — but as I’m sure you realize, our work is far from finished.
