Little Lucille was wandering the streets alone, and as the temperatures started to drop, she wondered what she would do to stay warm since she lost almost all of her fur to mange. She didn’t have a place to call home, and her belly was aching from hunger.

She had no one, and she needed a miracle.

DeKalb County Animal Services found tiny, helpless Lucille wandering the streets and immediately reached out to us to help her. We dropped everything we were doing to go and rescue her, knowing that you would support us and help provide the care she so desperately needs.

Lucille receiving care

She had a long road to recovery ahead of her, and her story was far from over.

After being examined by our Shelter Medicine Team, Lucille received pain medication and antibiotics for her skin infection as well as soothing medicated baths. We placed her in a loving AHS foster home where she could grow and heal.

Lucille still had some healing to do, but thanks to your support, she was already feeling much better! Her skin began to heal and be free from infection, and she was just waiting for all her fur to return.

And return it did! After about 8 weeks of expert medical care, a loving foster home, and your support, Lucille grew a beautiful brindle coat, and she looked like a whole new dog.

After just one day on the adoption floor, Lucille found the perfect forever family. They knew as soon as they laid eyes on her that she was the one.

Donations are needed now to help provide care to other animals just like Lucille who need our help before they are able to find the perfect forever home.
