Lola was brought to the Atlanta Humane Society when her previous owners were no longer able to care for her. We took Lola in and gave her a full physical exam which revealed something unexpected and catastrophic: Lola had a torn ACL, which is a crucial ligament in her back left leg.
This tear was causing Lola pain and made it difficult for her to walk. In order to have a good quality of life, Lola would need surgery. Our Shelter Medicine Team was faced with a difficult decision between two different surgeries- one very costly procedure that would allow her to keep her leg and one that would not.
The more costly surgery required a specialist to perform, so we reached out to our friends at VCA Animal Hospitals, and they happily agreed to help Lola get the care she needed. While the operation was still costly, the amazing folks at VCA Roswell performed this surgery at a reduced rate so that sweet Lola could keep her leg and run happily like a normal dog for the rest of her life.
After her surgery, we placed Lola in a loving AHS foster home where she could rest, heal, and receive all the TLC she needed. This procedure required that Lola be kept inactive as much as possible, and her foster parents made sure that Lola followed all the doctor’s orders.
Now, just a few short weeks later, Lola is healed and available for adoption! She is looking for a forever home without young children, so if you’re interested in meeting Lola, please reach out to our Foster Manager at [email protected]
Without your support, we simply could not provide such high levels of care to the animals who need us. Please consider a donation today to support Lola and hundreds of other animals just like her.
A special thanks to our friends at VCA Roswell for helping us take such incredible care of Lola!
