DESCRIPTION:Atlanta Humane’s new Pets in Crisis Support (PICS) Program provides temporary foster housing to pets of families who are facing crises such as eviction\, hospitalization\, or domestic abuse for up to 90 days so these pets can be reunited with their families. \nJoin us during our Virtual Pets in Crisis Support Program Information Session to learn more about this program\, how you can help\, and sign up to be a foster for a pet in need. \nInterested in becoming a foster for this program?\nA successful Pets in Crisis Support foster enjoys serving as a “link in the chain” between an unfortunate crisis situation and a happy reunion between the pet and their person. The PICS foster understands that they are helping a neighbor in need – albeit one they won’t meet face to face – by providing a temporary safe harbor for that neighbor’s pet. PICS clients are pet parents who are currently experiencing a crisis\, such as housing loss (eviction)\, domestic violence\, or an acute medical need. ​ \nWhy is this program and having fosters who can help so important? \n\nIn 2023\, well over 100\,000 eviction cases were filed in the five Metro Atlanta Counties.​\nNearly 50% of domestic violence survivors delay leaving abusers due to fear for their pets’ safety.​\n71% of women in domestic violence shelters report their abuser threatened\, injured\, or killed a pet.​\n\nOur Pets in Crisis Support Program steps in during these situations so that loving pet owners do not have to permanently surrender their pets to a shelter during a temporary crisis. \nRSVP Now

DESCRIPTION:Foster caregivers provide temporary care for shelter cats\, dogs\, kittens and puppies in their own homes. While we need fosters of all kinds\, we are urgently seeking fosters who can and are willing to facilitate meet and greets with potential adopters for their foster animal. These fosters will enable us to take in more animals in need and directly impact our collective ability to find more animals homes. \nI’m in! How do I sign up? \nIf you’re interested in becoming a foster caregiver at the Atlanta Humane Society\, your first step is this New Foster Orientation! During this orientation\, we will talk about what to expect when you are a foster and provide you with all the information you need to be a successful advocate for the animals through fostering. After the orientation\, we will set up a virtual home check with you as required by the Department of Agriculture. \nOnce you’re formally a foster caregiver for the Atlanta Humane Society\, you’ll receive access to our Foster Board that is updated daily to show you the animals currently in available for foster. You then are able to choose which animal you’d like to foster. \nThe Atlanta Humane Society will provide you with everything you need to foster the animal you’ve chosen including food\, toys\, and medical support. \nClick here to register for the virtual foster orientation.

DESCRIPTION:Watercolor Pet Portraits with Libby Dutcher \nCome and create with local artist\, Libby Dutcher\, who will expertly lead you through a Personalized Pet Portrait Guided Watercolor class. This class is perfect for both beginners and experienced artists and provides step-by-step guidance to create very individualized masterpieces. Each participant will submit their favorite pet photo to Libby via email or using the upload section below. She then creates a custom stencil you will use as a guideline for the watercolor painting. \nFollowing the workshop\, you have the option to have Libby create a digital file of your artwork and for printing on stationery\, gifts and more\, for an additional fee. A portion of the proceeds from this class will be donated back to the Atlanta Humane Society in the name of Libby’s brother\, Matthew Dunkin – animal lover and former Atlanta Humane Society volunteer – who passed in May of 2022. These fosters will enable us to take in more animals in need and directly impact our collective ability to find more animals homes. \nI’m in! How do I sign up? \nIf you’re interested in becoming a foster caregiver at the Atlanta Humane Society\, your first step is this New Foster Orientation! During this orientation\, we will talk about what to expect when you are a foster and provide you with all the information you need to be a successful advocate for the animals through fostering. After the orientation\, we will set up a virtual home check with you as required by the Department of Agriculture. \nOnce you’re formally a foster caregiver for the Atlanta Humane Society\, you’ll receive access to our Foster Board that is updated daily to show you the animals currently in available for foster. We’ll be hosting a series of four Open Interview Days for our Animal Welfare Specialist roles every Thursday from 3-5 p.m. starting January 11 and going through February 1. This role starts at $15 an hour and Atlanta Humane provides an employer-paid healthcare plan\, a 6% 401K match\, and pet benefits including discounts with Purina and VCA. \nThe Process\n\nFill out an application online. They support humane animal husbandry by providing physical and emotional enrichment to all animals and through feeding\, cleaning\, and daily maintenance of the kennel facilities. They assist adoption center guests by providing information regarding humane animal care\, providing department services\, facilitating visitations with animals\, and completing adoption counseling\, which includes exceptional human customer service\, compassion for our human families\, and facilitating great human-animal matches.
