SUMMARY:New Foster Orientation
DESCRIPTION:Foster caregivers provide temporary care for cats\, dogs\, kittens and puppies in their own homes. Some of the animals in need of fostering are too young to be adopted or sick or fearful and need some TLC before adoption. Because of COVID-19\, we are also in need of fosters who can provide in-home care for animals who are up for adoption while also helping to facilitate socially-distanced meet and greets with potential adopters. \nWe are urgently seeking fosters who can and are willing to facilitate socially-distanced meet and greets with potential adopters for their foster animal. These fosters will enable us to take in more animals in need and directly impact our collective ability to find more animals homes. \nI’m in! How do I sign up?\nIf you’re interested in becoming a foster caregiver at the Atlanta Humane Society\, your first step is signing up for a new foster orientation session! During this orientation\, we will talk about what to expect when you are a foster and provide you with all the information you need to be a successful advocate for the animals through fostering. After the orientation\, we will set up a virtual home check with you as required by the Department of Agriculture. \nSign Up \nOnce you’re formally a foster caregiver for the Atlanta Humane Society\, you’ll receive emails once or twice a week listing the animals who are currently in need of fostering\, why they need foster\, and information about them. You then are able to choose which animal you’d like to foster. \nThe Atlanta Humane Society will provide you with everything you need to foster the animal you’ve chosen including food\, toys\, and medical support.

The first visitors on the list will be able to enter our facility starting at 12 p.m. \nDue to this being a pop-up event\, we won’t be able to communicate which animals will be on-site\, but we can promise you’ll be able to meet great cats and dogs! \nAnd\, if you didn’t know\, our West Midtown and Alpharetta locations are open regularly for adoptions. You can view the available cats and available dogs at those locations in real time. No appointment is required to meet them. To view our hours at our West Midtown and Alpharetta locations\, click here. \nAnd\, if you’re looking to adopt a specific type of pet\, sign up to receive our pet alerts to be notified when pets who fit your criteria become available for adoption.

SUMMARY:Double Your Donation Day\, Presented by Boehringer Ingelheim
DESCRIPTION:When you give today\, your tax-deductible donation – up to $250\,000 – will be doubled by the Charles and Virginia Bagley Fund at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta to help end animal neglect. \nPenny was just 10 days old when she was repeatedly tossed into the air and dropped by some children. When an Animal Control Officer intervened and brought her to us for medical care\, we worried that she was too young and fragile to survive. \nPenny struggled to hold her head up\, and our Shelter Medicine Team feared that she might have swelling in her brain. They immediately fitted her with a tiny neck brace and placed her in an oxygen box to get her body the oxygen it needed. \nPenny fought hard and made it through those first critical days. Today\, she’s recovering in a loving foster home\, and it’s all because of our donors. \nYour donation will be doubled today.
